Complete Decongestive Therapy

The international clinical gold-standard for reducing and maintaining chronic Lymphedema.

A Multi-Phase Clinical Framework

Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is a highly intensive, multi-phase clinical framework specifically designed to aggressively reduce swelling and maintain the long-term health of the lymphatic system.

"Because Lymphedema is a chronic condition, there is no surgical 'cure.' However, with proper CDT application by a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT), the limb geometry and swelling can be returned to highly functional baseline levels."

Understanding The Four Pillars

1. Manual Lymphatic Drainage

A specialized, highly precise skin manipulation technique that manually re-routes stagnant fluid into healthy, functioning lymph nodes.

2. Compression Therapy

Utilizing short-stretch bandages followed by custom-measured medical garments to prevent the highly elastic skin from re-filling with fluid.

3. Decongestive Exercises

Specific, targeted physical movements designed to actively pump the limb muscles against the tight compression garments, flushing the system.

4. Skin Care Protocols

Clinical hygiene regimens to protect protein-rich skin from cellulitis and infection, ensuring long-term tissue integrity.

The Treatment Goal

The intent of CDT is to move the patient from the Phase I Reduction stage into the long-term Phase II Maintenance stage.

Did you know?

90% of failures in home lymphedema management are due to improper garment fitting or lack of decongestive phase completion.
